The September camping trip will be canoeing on the Sassafras River on the Eastern Shore MD. We will be camping near the take-out point of the river on the grounds of the NRMA (National Resource Management Area- which is managed by the MD Park Service) at a primitive youth group site. The site will have a Port-a-pot. There is no running water at the site, so all water will need to be brought in.
We will secure a location on Saturday to replenish water. Plans are to shuttle scouts & paddlers to the head waters of the Sassafras River and paddle downstream 7 miles. The river will start off very narrow and in a natural environment. As the float goes down stream we will paddle alongside two port towns (Fredericktown & Georgetown) connected by a drawbridge. The river will widen quite a bit, prior to our take-out. Our take out will occur prior to the river mouth of the Chesapeake Bay.
Fishing - Paddlers will have the opportunity to fish during the float. Please see the attached document of the Maryland Fishing License requirements. It will be up to scouts age 16+ & attending adults to secure their own fishing license prior to the trip.
